 Student Assistance Program (SAP)

The Student Assistance Program is an intervention program set up within our school.  Its purpose is to intervene as early as possible in situations where student problems have been recognized.  If the difficulty is drug and/or alcohol related, specially trained members of the Professional Staff  will take appropriate action to assist the student and his/her family.  It is a “helping” mechanism to work in conjunction with the school’s disciplinary code.  The Student Assistance Counselor also provides faculty in-service, student support groups, and an opportunity for parent involvement.

The Student Assistance Program is NOT a treatment resource.  Schools do not have the expertise nor the responsibility to treat.  Our expertise lies in our ability to observe the behavior and performance of our students.  Using our knowledge in this regard, we are able to identify early stages of crisis in the life of a young person and facilitate efficient and appropriate treatment outside the school.  Recognizing that no student or family is immune to problems, and that these problems have an impact on the school setting, Student Assistance Programs are designed to attend to all students.
